Goals of the Urban Environment Systems Course (Department)

Adhering to a free and independent spirit

• Students will be able to independently set goals and make self-evaluations as an engineer involved in sustainable and prosperous urban creation.
• Students will be able to be active within their own good conscience as well as social norms and rules in technical research and development regarding urban environment systems.
• Students will understand the necessity of independent study over their entire lifetime and acquire a mindset which is constantly obtaining new knowledge and abilities.

Interaction with society from a global perspective.

• Students will understand the social and cultural importance of sustainable and prosperous urban creation.
• Students will understand the mission of engineering from global and regional perspectives and be able to actively contribute to the development of the technology in sustainable and prosperous urban creation.

Universal education

• 教Students will understand various different cultures and values inside and outside Japan through education (core and electives), foreign language classes and more as well as develop a mindset to utilize this in the development and expansion of technology which provides support for sustainable and comfortable cities.
• Students will understand society, nature and the environment from a global perspective and gain awareness towards the urgency and importance of technological innovation for sustainable and prosperous urban creation.

*Expert knowledge, technology and skills

• Students will be able to master urban planning, infrastructure technology, environmental technology and information technology necessary for sustainable and prosperous urban creation in a systematic manner and apply them to solve various problems.
• Students will be able to express natural, social and scientific phenomena, the results of thinking and more through means such as figures and formula and make use of theoretical thought practice and the results of thinking as means for interacting with others.
• Students will be able to carry out analysis in a multifaceted and logical manner and express the results using a verifying mindset based on scientific grounds utilizing a background of expert knowledge regarding urban planning, infrastructure technology, environmental technology and information technology.
• Students will discover issues which require solving in the realization of sustainable cities, collect information necessary to solve these issues, carry out analysis and solve the issues.

Advanced problem solving skills

• Students will be able to communicate their own ideas including contents necessary for creating sustainable cities, communicate in Japanese to understand the thoughts of others, give presentations and be helpful in solving problems while cooperating with others. Students will also be able to carry out basic communication in English with others.
• Students will be able to collect and analyze diverse information using information communication technology and utilize the result in the creation of sustainable and prosperous cities while considering intellectual property rights and ethics.
• Students will be able cooperate and work well with others to independently take on issues focusing on creating urban environments.
• Students will utilize the expert knowledge, skills, attitude and other abilities necessary for the creation of sustainable and prosperous cities in a comprehensive manner and be able to solve new issues brought up independently based on social demands.
